On This Day in Pink History… 22nd January 2004, God is a DJ music video debuted

22.01.04

The music video for this song features scenes of Pink and others (assumed to be her roommates) getting dressed, having fun on a subway, and going to a nightclub. Pink then continues to bribe the bouncer (dressed in eccentric drag clothing) to enter the nightclub ahead of the queue.

Sober was released as a CD single with the b-side When We’re Through in the UK in January 2009 as the second single from Pink’s 2008 album Funhouse.

Sober was written by Pink and Kara DioGuardi, with additional writing by Nate “Danja” Hills and Marcella Araica, while production was done by Danja, Tony Kanal and Jimmy Harry.

Pink claims the song is “about the vices that we choose.” She added, “I had this idea in my head, ‘like how do I feel this good sober?’ So I brought that idea to Danja and with this awesome girl Kara DioGuardi and we wrote this song, Sober. And it’s a pretty telling song and then me and Tony Kanal and Jimmy Harry finished it, production-wise, threw some strings on it and made it a little bit darker and a little bit more rocky.”

“It’s just a really, really personal beautiful song, one of my favorites.”

I wrote a song called “Sober”, which is actually really dark. I was at a party at my own house, I didn’t want to be there, I didn’t want anyone else there. And I had this line in my head saying, ‘How do I feel this good sober?’, it’s not just about alcohol, it’s about vicies, we all have different ones. We try to get away from ourselves, and find our ‘true selves’ and then we do this things that take us so far from the truth, I guess that ‘Sober’ is ‘How do I feel this good when it’s just me, without anything to lean on?’.

In the UK Singles Chart, Sober first entered at number 80, and eventually peaked at number 9. In the 2009 End of Year Charts it reached number 106.

The music video was directed by Jonas Akerlund and filmed in the last days of September in Stockholm, Sweden.

The video starts with views from the city and then a little TV is turned on in Pink’s bedroom and Pink appears in white. The song starts, and Pink is shown in the bedroom lying on the bed alone, and a girl is shown walking out of the door of the room. As the first verse starts, Pink is shown sitting on a sofa in a party where her doppelgänger is drunk and flirting with different girls and guys. Pink’s doppelgänger is shown in the bathroom, throwing up. Pink enters the bathroom and sits beside her doppelgänger who seemed disturbed and then walks out. Pink is now lying on the bed, her doppelgänger calls her up, but Pink doesn’t answer her cell. As the chorus begins, Pink is shown singing on her bed in her bedroom and on the sofa in the party. And then pictures of a white room where Pink is dressed with white outfit and wearing a white pageboy wig are shown. The second verse is sung in the same location. As the chorus starts again, Pink is shown walking in the room where the party was held where everybody is blacked out and drunk, including her doppelgänger. As the song reaches its climax, the bridge kicks off and Pink is shown spanking and making out with her doppelgänger in bed. The scene was cut or replaced by almost all TV channels. Various scenes from the video are then shown and the video ends with one of the Pinks walking out of the door of the bedroom leaving the other Pink alone.

Sober was performed on the Funhouse Tour while Pink was doing stunts on a trapeze with Sebastien Stella. Pink performed the song live while doing the stunts, which were highly praised by fans and critics. The pair also did the performance at the MTV VMA’s in 2009. On the American leg of the Funhouse tour, Pink didn’t perform the stunts due to injury.

Popping the question usually conjures up images of a starry-eyed groom on bended knee against some romantic backdrop. But rebellious pop star Pink’s proposal was fittingly unconventional: the bride-to-be flagged down her motocross champion beau Carey Hart during a bike race by holding up a board that said: “Will you marry me?”. As Carey revved up for a second lap, she held up a second one which simply read: “I’m serious!”.

So when the singer tied the knot last weekend at an intimate beachside ceremony in Costa Rica, the most surprising aspect, perhaps, was just how traditionally romantic the unconventional pair could be.

Having said she planned on “being a girl and wearing a dress” on her special day, the Lady Marmalade vocalist, whose real name is Alecia Moore, was transformed from punk princess to emotional bride for the sunset service, held on the shores of the Four Seasons Resort. “We just love the beach, so we wanted it here,” she told People magazine.

Radiant in a champagne halter-neck gown, complete with fairytale tiered skirt tied with a sash at the waist, the bride made sure she included some individual twists, too, from her barefoot stroll down the aisle to Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman, to her platinum blonde hairstyle with bright pink highlights.

More than 100 guests, including singer Lisa Marie Presley, witnessed the nuptials, in which the bride and groom, who began dating in 2001, read heartfelt vows they’d written themselves. According to one report, a teary-eyed Pink told her husband: “I love you because I let you hold my heart and you haven’t broken it.”

“I wanted to see how creative Carey could be, and he’s always so cute when he’s nervous,” the bride explained in the wedding programme. “No, the real reason [we wrote our own vows] is: I didn’t think anyone else’s words could ever have possibly described how far we’ve come or how much we love each other. And I always like to say it my way.”

Carey, meanwhile, had a somewhat cheekier explanation: “Because I didn’t think any vows had been written that would describe how hot her ass is. Just kidding (not really).

“To listen to Alecia express her love for me and us will be heaven to my ears. And, it isn’t everyday that I get to express how I feel about her in a surrounding with all of our closest family and friends,” he concluded.

The couple swapped rings which had been made by close friend Stephen Webster; Pink and Carey had asked him to come up with a “cool and different” design that was “our kind of beautiful”. The result? Rings that say “til death” in platinum and diamonds.

Known for his daredevil motorcycle stunts, the 30-year-old groom, who, like Pink, has a tattoo which reads “Tru Luv”, is no less adventurous when it comes to showing his marital devotion: “Once we get married, I’m going to tattoo her name down my ring finger,” he promised.

For now, the couple are reportedly heading off with their four dogs on a snowboarding honeymoon. But for Carey, at least, that’s just the icing on the cake. “I’m so excited to be married to her,” he said in the run up to the wedding, “I don’t even care about the honeymoon!”

P!nk History… 2016 Review

pinkhistory2016

If we thought that 2015 was a quiet year for Pink, it was nothing compared to 2016. Although Pink released the single Just Like Fire for the 2016 movie, Alice Through the Looking Glass, she spent the second half of the year away from the spotlight until she surprised us with the announcement of her pregnancy. Lets take a look back at some of the highlights of what Pink got up to in 2016…

January

Pink attended the Stella McCartney Autumn Presentation in Hollywood.

March

In March, Pink re-joined Instagram with a public account for her fans to follow.

April

In April, Pink released the single Just Like Fire, which she had wrote for the soundtrack of Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass.

May

In early May 2016, Pink and Willow did a Facebook live video chat with fans.

Pink was then on The Ellen Show…

Pink appeared as a guest judge on the Voice

Later on in the month, Pink attended the Alice premiere and was on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, where she was surprised by Johnny Depp. There was also a performance of Just Like Fire and White Rabbit

Pink also performed Just Like Fire at the Billboard Music Awards in May…

June

In June, Pink attended the 5th Annual SYV Polo Classic event and performed at the Genentech Gives Back event.

July

Pink teamed up with country singer Kenny Chesney to release the duet Setting the World on Fire

Pink then took some time out to be away from the spotlight and to spend time with her family. There were many rumours about a new album and tour, but in November she surprised us all with the announcement of her pregnancy!

UPDATE!

This post was originally created a few days ago, I left it as close to the end of the year as possible to create this post, but on Wednesday 28th December, Pink took to Instagram to announce the birth of Jameson Moon Hart! Jameson was born on 26th December (Boxing Day!) and Pink posted the cutest photos of the new born’s arrival…

Congratulations to the Hart family and welcome to the world little Jameson!

Welcome to the world Jameson Moon Hart!

In November 2016, Pink announced via social media that the Harts were expecting their second child.

Pink and Carey have stated in past interviews that if they were to have a baby boy they would name him Jameson. “My dad’s name is James, and my brother’s name is Jason. [Carey and I] are both Irish, Carey’s middle name is Jason, and Jameson—we like whiskey. That’s a no brainer.”

Congratulations to Pink and Carey on the birth of your beautiful baby boy. And to Willow – congrats on becoming a big sister!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from PinkHistory!

Although its been a quiet year for P!nk, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been making Pink History over the last 12 months, from releasing soundtrack single Just Like Fire for the 2016 Alice movie, to announcing her pregnancy, P!nk has still had a very busy year!

As Pink spends the Christmas holidays with her family and those close with her, there are no daily events to post over the next few days (apart from paparazzi sightings, which will never be posted on Pink History!!), but please stay tuned over the next few days for some fun and exciting posts over Christmas! Bookmark this page and follow Pink History on Facebook and Twitter to make sure you don’t miss out! Pink History will be back with the daily posts on 27th December.

Also, join us on Instagram where we will be making some special posts over the Christmas holidays.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has followed and supported PinkHistory over the last 12 months. Every like, comment and follow really means a lot to me, and it makes all the hard work put into this project worth it. Pink fans really are the ‘most loyal, dedicated motherfuckers’ out there. I’m so proud to be a part of the Pink family!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all Pink fans and their families

Love,

On This Day in Pink History… 21st December 2006, Dear Mr President was released

On This Day in Pink History… 21st December 2006, Dear Mr President was released

20-12-06

Dear Mr President was recorded for Pink’s fourth album, I’m Not Dead. The song, featuring Indigo Girls, is an open letter to then President of the United States, George W. Bush, written by Pink and Billy Mann. The song criticizes several areas of Bush’s administration and terms in office, including the Iraq War, No Child Left Behind Act, disapproval of equal rights for homosexuals, lack of empathy for poor and middle class citizens, Bush’s strong religious beliefs, and Bush’s drinking and drug usage in college. Pink felt that it was one of the most important songs she had ever written.

The song received positive reviews by music critics. Bill Lamb noted that Pink has rarely made songs about social problems: “the searing anti-Bush “Dear Mr. President” (…) “a folkie singalong” (…) The Indigo Girls lend their sizable instrumental and background vocal punch” and he highlighted it.Robert Christgau noted that Pink thinks “Bush did coke and teens care about the homeless.” Entertainment Weekly described Dear Mr. President “with its incongruous folkie social concern and Bush-baiting applause lines.” Los Angeles Times said that Pink taps her inner Ani DiFranco on the confrontational “Dear Mr. President.” NY Times noted that the song is “well meaning” and “hectoring” and that it grows even more sententious. PopMatters praised the single with long overview: “Oh, and speaking of presidents, Pink’s musical letter to the Commander-in-Chief (“Dear Mr. President”) is just as topical. The Indigo Girls tag along for moral support and, with lyrics like “How can you say, ‘no child is left behind’ / we’re not dumb and we’re not blind” or “You’ve come a long way, from whiskey and cocaine”, you just know that if she’d made the song a few years earlier, it would have been featured in Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 911. You also get the impression that this is personal for Pink, that she’s not doing it to be trendy. On the lyric page for “Dear Mr. President”, there’s a picture of Pink in an oval frame. Red, white, and blue ribbons are tied to the frame and her father’s dog tags share the reddish page.” Rolling Stone told that Pink writes a scathing letter in “Dear Mr. President” (“You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine!”) and critic praised “cooing righteous folk harmonies with Indigo Girls.” Sal Cinquemani was mixed: “”Dear Mr. President,” which cleverly uses George W. Bush’s own words against him, pales next to Missundaztood’s “My Vietnam.”
