On This Day in Pink History… 19th January 2009, Sober was released in the UK

Sober was released as a CD single with the b-side When We’re Through in the UK in January 2009 as the second single from Pink’s 2008 album Funhouse.

Sober was written by Pink and Kara DioGuardi, with additional writing by Nate “Danja” Hills and Marcella Araica, while production was done by Danja, Tony Kanal and Jimmy Harry.

Pink claims the song is “about the vices that we choose.” She added, “I had this idea in my head, ‘like how do I feel this good sober?’ So I brought that idea to Danja and with this awesome girl Kara DioGuardi and we wrote this song, Sober. And it’s a pretty telling song and then me and Tony Kanal and Jimmy Harry finished it, production-wise, threw some strings on it and made it a little bit darker and a little bit more rocky.”

I wrote a song called “Sober”, which is actually really dark. I was at a party at my own house, I didn’t want to be there, I didn’t want anyone else there. And I had this line in my head saying, ‘How do I feel this good sober?’, it’s not just about alcohol, it’s about vicies, we all have different ones. We try to get away from ourselves, and find our ‘true selves’ and then we do this things that take us so far from the truth, I guess that ‘Sober’ is ‘How do I feel this good when it’s just me, without anything to lean on?’.

In the UK Singles Chart, Sober first entered at number 80, and eventually peaked at number 9. In the 2009 End of Year Charts it reached number 106.

The music video was directed by Jonas Akerlund and filmed in the last days of September in Stockholm, Sweden.

The video starts with views from the city and then a little TV is turned on in Pink’s bedroom and Pink appears in white. The song starts, and Pink is shown in the bedroom lying on the bed alone, and a girl is shown walking out of the door of the room. As the first verse starts, Pink is shown sitting on a sofa in a party where her doppelgänger is drunk and flirting with different girls and guys. Pink’s doppelgänger is shown in the bathroom, throwing up. Pink enters the bathroom and sits beside her doppelgänger who seemed disturbed and then walks out. Pink is now lying on the bed, her doppelgänger calls her up, but Pink doesn’t answer her cell. As the chorus begins, Pink is shown singing on her bed in her bedroom and on the sofa in the party. And then pictures of a white room where Pink is dressed with white outfit and wearing a white pageboy wig are shown. The second verse is sung in the same location. As the chorus starts again, Pink is shown walking in the room where the party was held where everybody is blacked out and drunk, including her doppelgänger. As the song reaches its climax, the bridge kicks off and Pink is shown spanking and making out with her doppelgänger in bed. The scene was cut or replaced by almost all TV channels. Various scenes from the video are then shown and the video ends with one of the Pinks walking out of the door of the bedroom leaving the other Pink alone.

Sober was performed on the Funhouse Tour while Pink was doing stunts on a trapeze with Sebastien Stella. Pink performed the song live while doing the stunts, which were highly praised by fans and critics. The pair also did the performance at the MTV VMA’s in 2009. On the American leg of the Funhouse tour, Pink didn’t perform the stunts due to injury.

The Music Video:

Get The Party Started was written by 4 Non Blondes front woman, Linda Perry. Although the process of making the song was “so unlike me” as Linda stated she was going through a “weird phase”, eventually she gave the song to Pink.

After its UK release in January, it peaked at number 2 in the UK Singles Chart, where it was narrowly denied the top spot by the posthumous release of George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord. In the UK end of year charts in 2002 it reached number 21. It was certified Silver having sold 200,000 copies.

The music video was shoot by Dave Myers in Los Angeles in September 2001. In the video Pink is getting ready to go out, trying on different outfits. One of her friends picks her up, and they drive in a car bobbing their heads to the music. However, the car runs out of fuel, so they get out and steal two skateboards from two boys. Pink falls off her skateboard because men in a car are whistling at her. The women arrive at the club but are refused entry, so to get in they use a scaffold to reach the top of the building. Inside the club Pink changes her clothes and starts to party; in the end Pink dances with two other dancers (Kevin Federline and Georvohn Lambert).

The song is included in many tour set lists and has been used to close shows, usually accompanied by Pink doing stunts in the air. It was also performed as a remix on the I’m Not Dead Tour, using elements of the Eurythmics song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). Pink had previously teamed up with Redman and Rockwilder to record this remix in the studio which was a b-side to the single and was actually released as a single in France.

On This Day in Pink History… 7th January 2006, Pink and Carey got married

Popping the question usually conjures up images of a starry-eyed groom on bended knee against some romantic backdrop. But rebellious pop star Pink’s proposal was fittingly unconventional: the bride-to-be flagged down her motocross champion beau Carey Hart during a bike race by holding up a board that said: “Will you marry me?”. As Carey revved up for a second lap, she held up a second one which simply read: “I’m serious!”.

So when the singer tied the knot last weekend at an intimate beachside ceremony in Costa Rica, the most surprising aspect, perhaps, was just how traditionally romantic the unconventional pair could be.

Having said she planned on “being a girl and wearing a dress” on her special day, the Lady Marmalade vocalist, whose real name is Alecia Moore, was transformed from punk princess to emotional bride for the sunset service, held on the shores of the Four Seasons Resort. “We just love the beach, so we wanted it here,” she told People magazine.

Radiant in a champagne halter-neck gown, complete with fairytale tiered skirt tied with a sash at the waist, the bride made sure she included some individual twists, too, from her barefoot stroll down the aisle to Billy Joel’s She’s Always A Woman, to her platinum blonde hairstyle with bright pink highlights.

More than 100 guests, including singer Lisa Marie Presley, witnessed the nuptials, in which the bride and groom, who began dating in 2001, read heartfelt vows they’d written themselves. According to one report, a teary-eyed Pink told her husband: “I love you because I let you hold my heart and you haven’t broken it.”

“I wanted to see how creative Carey could be, and he’s always so cute when he’s nervous,” the bride explained in the wedding programme. “No, the real reason [we wrote our own vows] is: I didn’t think anyone else’s words could ever have possibly described how far we’ve come or how much we love each other. And I always like to say it my way.”

Carey, meanwhile, had a somewhat cheekier explanation: “Because I didn’t think any vows had been written that would describe how hot her ass is. Just kidding (not really).

“To listen to Alecia express her love for me and us will be heaven to my ears. And, it isn’t everyday that I get to express how I feel about her in a surrounding with all of our closest family and friends,” he concluded.

The couple swapped rings which had been made by close friend Stephen Webster; Pink and Carey had asked him to come up with a “cool and different” design that was “our kind of beautiful”. The result? Rings that say “til death” in platinum and diamonds.

Known for his daredevil motorcycle stunts, the 30-year-old groom, who, like Pink, has a tattoo which reads “Tru Luv”, is no less adventurous when it comes to showing his marital devotion: “Once we get married, I’m going to tattoo her name down my ring finger,” he promised.

For now, the couple are reportedly heading off with their four dogs on a snowboarding honeymoon. But for Carey, at least, that’s just the icing on the cake. “I’m so excited to be married to her,” he said in the run up to the wedding, “I don’t even care about the honeymoon!”

As there is no information for today’s daily post, I am going to use today as a review of 2014 in Pink History. Although Pink has not been on tour, or had her own album to promote, it has been a huge year for her.

In January, Pink started the year by attending the 56th Grammy Awards and performing a breathtaking performance of Try and Just Give Me A Reason, which she was joined by Nate Ruess.

Also in January, The Truth About Love Tour officially came to an end in Las Vegas. The tour played throughout North America, Europe and Australia, with 142 shows in total. The tour was a huge success, with Pink breaking her own records in Australia and a tour DVD being released in 2013.

In March 2014, Pink attended the Oscars and performed Somewhere Over The Rainbow:

In the summer Pink went to Europe to the Paris Fashion Week events. She was also a guest on Top Chef Duels in August.

In September 2014, Pink announced via Twitter that she had got together with friend Dallas Green to create You+Me. Together they released an album in October called Roseave and performed a concert in Santa Monica.

Of course no album release is complete without a visit to the Ellen Show…

October also saw Pink performing at the Power of Pink event with special guests including Linda Perry, Butch Walker, Billy Mann, Dallas Green and Nate Ruess.

During 2014 Pink has supported No Kid Hungry, a charity to end child hunger in America.

2014 has been a fantastic year for Pink. I wonder what 2015 will bring…?

This series examines the photographers who exhibited at the Leica Galerie at photokina 2014. The focus of this year’s exhibition concept was on impressive photography from the world of music. It embraces all facets of music photography, and today we’re featuring the work of Letanguerrant who gives us a look on stage and behind-the-scenes of singer P!nk’s tour. Read on for more information about his work, exhibit, and insight.

Letanguerrant is a cosmopolitan. Born in Halifax, Canada, in 1963, he only spent the first three months of his life there. As a photographer, musician, and dancer, he has been traveling his whole life. He lived in Paris for 15 years, but has also lived in New York, Montreal, Miami, Vancouver, and Melbourne. For the last eight years he has been based in Los Angeles .

Letanguerrant has been working in the music scene for over three decades, and the list of names he has toured with is long: Prince, Sting, Sade, Céline Dion, Cher, Mariah Carey, Sinéad O’Connor, Moby, and Seal, to name a few. However, his closest relationship is with P!nk.  He has been accompanying and getting to know her like few others for the past two years. “P!nk is one of the best performers and singers I’ve ever seen. She’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met, she gives 200% to her work – all the time,” the photographer, who admits to being one of her greatest fans, says enthusiastically. It is no surprise then that the photographer has taken such unique pictures of the artist. The apparent ease seen in the images belies the complexity of the photographer’s work. “Shooting ‘live’ conditions isn’t easy, because the lights change all the time – and their intensity as well. I have to change my settings constantly. The band moves all the time, especially P!nk; she’s always running around on stage. One second she’s here, a second later she’s somewhere else.” Letanguerrant is concerned about the authenticity of his pictures, so he does not use Photoshop. The photographer and his camera (whether a Leica M, M9 or M2) are one entity. “I look at something or someone and all I think about is how I can make it look in a picture.”

Q: What image is your favorite in this gallery and why?

A: This image of the drummer Mark Schulman is the one I like best. I like this picture because it is shot live and we can see the effect that the Noctilux 50 mm does at 0.95. I love that bokeh effect and that’s exactly why I got the lens. It gives a mystic effect and it’s not the traditional live picture that we usually see.

Q: What, if anything, do you hope the viewer sees or gains when looking at these images?

A: Usually, photographers who work on live shows always use DSLR cameras. I think it’s a good thing for Leica to show these pictures and show people that Leica M cameras can do a great job in live conditions with extra low lights and a lot of movements on stage.

Aleica Moore (P!nk) & Dallas Green (City and Colour) team up for new album “rose ave.”

P!nk has been added to our star-studded line up for the first time. Her figure has a show-stopping position in our Music Zone, suspended from the ceiling seated on a giant glitterball. BUT fans will need to visit fast to blow her One Last Kiss, because she leaves [LONDON] for Madame Tussauds Sydney on 1st November 2014.
